“Guide is approved by the viper hey guys and welcome to another installment of zero zero to hero. This episode will be a little different to the previous three as won t actually be looking at a specific civilization. But instead we ll be looking at strategies for the dark age. I ll be adding these in every now.
And then just to break things up from the normal sift guides and today. We ll be looking at the dark age how to start your game. And what you need to do in order to set yourself up for a dark age rush feudal age rush or a fast castle. Most games will start exactly the same of course.
There are tiny variations depending on the civilization that you re playing. But for the most part pretty much every civilization will have an identical start first players should queue as many villages up at the town center. As they can and then start building one house with two villages and another house with the third villager in the case of the homes. Where you don t need any houses you can actually move your villages.
Outwards initially to help scouting and finding your first sheep. They should then move the scout towards the nearest sheep. If they re visible if you can t see your sheep initially then starts counting in a circle around your town center. Until you find the first group of four it s important to do this as quickly as possible so that you don t get population blocked and that you find your initial sheep.
Very quickly when placing the first two houses also ensure that they re not directly next to the town center. As this is obviously going to prevent you from placing farms. There a bit later on it s also really important that you build the houses as close to where the villages start so that the walking time to building. The house is as little as possible all these tiny savings of time add up overall to make a big difference over the course of the game.
Once you ve found your initial four sheep. You should send them back to the town center. If you were quite confident and a little bit more confident about your micromanagement ability. Then you can send two of the sheep that you found to explore the map.
And then only send two back to the town center. When you get better at the game. You should definitely be scouting with sheep. Though you should then continue to use your scout to find the remaining four sheet tube or your large stone going gold pile your small gold pile your.
Large stone pile and your closest forest as well as the deer patch. Which is bound to be fairly close by which you found all of those things you could then go and proceed to move your scout to the enemy base and find out where they are on the map at the town centre. You should begin with setting your first six villagers to gather the sheep. This ensures that you have enough food income to sustain villager production.
Without the town centre. Actually going idle. Now you should use the hotkey h. Which will jump to the town centre.
Whenever you hear the village of created sound..
So as soon as you hear a little shh press. The h button and make sure. There s another villager being created you ve got to make sure that they re always being created at all times throughout the dark age. It s also really important to note that when gathering food from animals.
The animals will slowly rot away so they ll lose food over time for this reason. It s really important that you take food from only one sheep or one boar or one deer at a time this will ensure that you get the most food out of them none. None is going to be weighted in that way if you want to make sure that your villagers don t spread out and gather all of the sheep at once for instance. If they finish a sheep and there s lots nearby they re all going to spread out randomly and kill different sheep off you want to make sure you only keep two sheep under the town center at any time.
One that s being eaten and one that s about to be eaten next. The villagers will then finish their sheep that they re on and move directly to the next sheep and it will already be into the town center. But that staging their movement of the sheath in under the town center once again another thing to note when taking sheep and boar or even deer. You should try and eat them as close to the drop off point as possible so after your initial six villagers on food.
It s very common practice to send the following four villagers to take wood. The first villager should build the lumber camp at the edge of your closest forest make sure. It s right up to the forest and then you should send it three more villages. What if you do intend to rush.
Then you will certainly need the four villages straight to wood the next villager that you create should be sent to hunt your ball. If you have a ball on the front and back then you should always lee on the front ball first if they re both on the front. Then you should you re the furthest to ball first this is good practice because obviously a little bit later on maybe not in at lower levels. But later on if your opponent intends to steal your ball then they ll go for your flare this ball from your town center the closest to them so when luring your ball make sure that you go for the furthest.
One first also when you do lee or the ball make sure you hit it twice with the villager luring. It and then run back to the town center. You should aim to send the villager so that the ball ends up directly underneath. The town center.
Obviously being the closest point to the drop off at this point you ll be on 12 population. Once the village is lured the ball. And it s important here to remember not to get housed obviously at this stage. You ve built two houses you ve got your town set.
So that s a total of 15 you re on 12. Now you re going to making more villagers. So you need more houses. So make sure then that you build a house.
The following thing you re going to want to build is a mill. But make sure you build the house before the mill to ensure that you get the ball. You ve got enough wood to actually build the house. If you build the mill first you might not have enough wood for the house afterwards and you might get population blocked.
Obviously getting population blocked cost you time..
And it s never a good thing so anyway. Once the borer is back at your town center. You the chapters are if it s quite far away you would have actually built the mill or the house whilst with the next villager whilst you re still luring the ball. You should make sure that the villagers that are gathering the sheep drop their resources off first before attacking the ball that s really important because if you don t do this.
The food that the villagers are carrying will disappear and you ll lose a lot of food from it so make sure you garrison your villagers inside of your town center or drop them off by right clicking. The town center a very effective way to do it is by garrisoning them and setting them to take the ball and that all come out and attack the boring unison okay. So that s pretty much standard start for every civilization maybe you know the chinese are gonna be a little bit different. But i can t go into all the pinpoints about every civilization at once because obviously.
There s just there s a lot of different varieties of the civilization. But for the most part that s exactly how it s going to go initially. What we re going to look at first is how to do a fast 22 population feudal age so that you can feed a rush. So after you ve sent your first borja.
You should then proceed to add three more villagers to berries. So you ve got your mill up. And you ve got three villagers going to berries next. The fourth villager that you create after you ve lured your first boar in should then go and lure the second ball.
So that makes sure that you ve always got a ball coming if the second ball should come in just as your first boar is finishing up it if you do that right you ll also need a house around this time again so one of your villages. That s gathering wood. You should use to build another house you could also use a buried villager to do that as well and this will bring your total population limit to 25. Which is all you need to do a fast feudal once the second bhur bhur once the second boer is lord you should create farms with the weakest villages.
So the ones that lured the boar and the ones that may have taken damage whilst. Killing. It this will keep them close to the town center. And it will reduce the chances of them being sniped off later by maybe scouts for instance.
The following three villages after the second ball. You should then be tasked to taking the boar and sheep under the town center. So obviously you re creating some farms. You re taking villagers away from taking the boar.
So the next three should then go on to taking the ball. After you ve done that the 21st villager should be sent to build a second lumber camp. And it should be a little bit further away from your first one or even better on another forest all together and the reason for this is if you do get rushed. Then you ve always got another lumber camp ready there you can transition villagers over to it quite usually and your final 22nd villager should then also be sent to collect wood finally after your 22nd villager.
You should upgrade loom before researching the feudal upgrade. And that s really important because you want to do loom last. But also you don t want to not do it because if anyone does come in with salami if they re faster than you they can kill your villages. Very quickly if you bought a quite far away though in the example that i showed earlier.
I think then you should get loom just before you send your villager over to take the ball in most situations..
Though you ll be able to take the ball without problem. And you should get loom last and then click straight up to feudal that s the 20 t. Population dark age. And it will set you very nicely up for a few later russian fast feudal age russian and i ll be releasing a feudal rush video soon where we will continue from exactly this point next.
We ll need to rewind a little bit and look at the build order for fast castle. The aim of a fast castle is to research and reach the castle age as fast as possible in order to do this you will need to extend your time in the dark age and create extra villages in order to get enough resources to upgrade to the castle. Age as soon as you reach the fuel age and have your to fuel age buildings the number of villages required to fast castle is 27 to 28. Some prefer.
27 simplify. 28. Once you ve made your 22nd villager. So you ve sent you 22nd villagers to wood.
You should then add more villagers to wood sending the next three. There as well you should also take deer with four of your villagers. Gathering food. And.
If the deer are far away. Make. A second mill on the deer. It s certainly worth it deer give great food and they will help you to reach your 800 food for castle.
Very quickly you should also start building farms with the villagers who are taking the remaining sheep under the town center and to ensure that you have enough food make sure you get the farms up quickly and you as i said have the villages on the wood. So you can afford the farms. You should finally add two to three villages to gold before clicking up to feudal once you reach. The feudal age.
You should be very close to requirement of 800 food and 200 gold and then all you need is the blacksmith in the market. And you can click up straightaway. The vast castle. Really isn t that much different to the standard sort of feudal build or the feudal age rush built you just add a few more villages in and extend your time in the fuel age of course.
If you are straight dark age. If you are planning to go for a fast castle. Make sure your opponent can t attack you whilst you re upgrading. Because you ll be defenseless.
And you ll lose a lot of villages finally on the dark age rush followed by the fast castle usually players who d rush will advance the castle age pretty quickly as well and they ll delay their feudal time because they re making the militia which cost 60 food sorry 60 food and 20 gold of course and then they ll click up to the fuel age on 27 to 28 villages so around 30 or 31. Population. Just like in a fast castle. Once loom is researched you only have 50 gold remaining.
Though so this is why players who d rush with a three militia dress will send one villager to take ten gold from the nearest gold camp..
Allowing them to make final militia and to complete the three militia drush couple. The militia with your scout and you ll be able to raid your opponent s wood and if they don t have a loom you ll probably be able to pick off quite a few villagers quite easily to these strategy works. Very well against lower level players who may not know how to deal with the dark age rush. It s very similar to a standard build.
Only you will have to build a barracks at around 6 minutes. And add an extra villager so a total of 5 wood a little earlier on and that s so you can afford to make all the buildings that you ll need during the dark age. The best thing about ad rush. Though is that you don t always have to follow it with a fast castle.
If your opponent is likely to fuel a rush. You and your jewish hasn t really been so successful. Then you can very easily add archery ranges and make archers to flush with as well as i said earlier. Though will look more flushing and fuel age rushing in another video well final thing is how to actually defend against a rush firstly.
You will need to have an idea of whether your opponent will rush or not the best way to do this is to scout their barracks. If you see the barracks has flags coming out of it then that means there are militia inside. And you should prepare yourself for the drush. If the other player is a similar skill level to you and their score starts to get a little bit higher or quite a bit higher and then that could also indicate that they re joshing so if you know your opponent would rush.
What you re going to do. There is actually sort of two answers to this one would be to counter the drush by rushing yourself. But in order to do this you ll have to make sure that you scout their barracks early it s not really much used actually countering their to rush. If the militias are already in your base.
Because that s kind of a bit late you can also use walls. Though to prevent a drug from being effective and buy you enough time to go to feudal and make some futile army to stop them walling your villages into your resources. So putting palisades down to make a sort of line between the lumber camp and the word or that the goal in the gold camp for instance will prevent the militia from getting in and walling. So the militia are forced to go close to your town center will also keep them away as they will die.
Very quickly in the town center fire. Obviously so that pretty much concludes this video about how to draw do a dark age hopefully. It s actually been helpful to you and you ll learn some of the technology and everything for the dark age. But one thing.
I will say is just keep practicing and you will get better. It s really just a matter of time and effort. But as i said hopefully with the information in this video. You ll have a much better idea of which build order you should go for depending on what you plan to do anyway guys thanks for watching as usual.
