Today, thetruthaboutdow.org would like to introduce to you 4 WRITING TOOLS I CAN T LIVE WITHOUT . Following along are instructions in the video below:
” s up my friend abbi here and welcome back to writers life wednesday. Today. We we are talking about writing tools specifically the ones that i can t live. Without is kind of an interesting topic.
Because you see a lot of articles out there talking about writing tools writing tools you need. But it seems like sometimes they all do the same thing right i mean not like we re expecting some app to be developed that turns a brilliant idea into a pulitzer prize winning novel with one click no no of course not of course. We don t want that but here s the truth. Most writing tools that you hear talked about they don t write your book for you sad.
I know. But there are some apps and tools out there that make the writing process easier smoother better and that s what i m going to talk about today the for writing apps. Spreading tools that i can t live without alright let s jump right into it i don t know how i m ranking. These things except that number one is definitely my favorite the best most incredible important tool that was ever invented you all know what it is already scrivener you ve heard me say girl about it before so i won t go on for too.
Long. But scrivener is the best writing to old the best tool period. That was ever invented not only is it a writer s dream for organizing. Everything all your notes and outlines and writing drafts and just keeping everything in a nice wonderful organized space.
But it s also great for organizing and making sense of the real world. Too. I actually just made a video in collaboration with this awesome channel keep productive. All about how i use scrivener for my writing.
But also for planning..
My life if you haven t seen that video go check it out i ll leave the link right. There the thing. I love best about scrivener is that it s like having a virtual office. Everything you need to write this novel in one organized space.
And it has tons of awesome intuitive features that just make the writing process. So much easier. What are some of my favorites. Good question labels helps me to keep track of points of view and writing styles.
Corkboard view. Is like literally having a corkboard of three by five cards. Only better. Because you can change.
What s written on them snapshots quickly and efficiently saves. Previous drafts of my books in a special place so i never lose them status keeps my documents always updated with where i m at in my writing process linguistic focus helps me to see what adjectives verbs and nouns. I use and overuse composition mode keeps me focused and in the zone with customizable backgrounds and colors and last. But not least writing history keeps track of my daily.
Where it counts much better than i ever could that s literally the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what scrivener can do i love this software. So much it is a must have in my opinion. If you use scrivener and love it even half as much as i do comment below and tell me what is your favorite feature okay now i m gonna stop in gerling about scrivener and move on to number two hemingway some of you might side with graham really on this but i have to say it s a free online editing app that strengthens any kind of writing from prose to academical papers. It s simple and straightforward with less of a focus on grammar.
And more of a focus on ease of reading and sentence structure now of course..
I tried grammerly but i didn t really like it that much and i was also kind of disappointed that you have to pay for most of the features that you see advertised when youtube forces you to wait. 5 endless seconds to watch any video ever because google has already blacklisted you as a writer but at least they don t think you re a murderer. What were we talking about oh yeah. Graham really okay.
So yeah. I don t really like graham early that much and actually some of their grammar corrections were wrong so so i don t have much to say about it really but i do like hemingway. I like hemingway a lot first. It tells you what grade level your writing is then it highlights adverbs.
Then it highlights passive voice. Then it highlights phrases that have simpler alternatives. Then a highlight sentences that are hard to read then a highlight sentences that are really hard to read and also gives you an estimate of how many times you can get away with these mortal sins based on how many words you ve written pretty awesome. It also has a writing mode.
Which silence is the editing side of things so your creative genius can just flow through. But i never actually used that part i never actually right within the app because it s governor. But what i will do is i ll do one round of edits and scrivener and then copy and paste each chapter into hemingway and strengthen my prose it s a great app 10 10 recommend number three google docs no obviously. I don t write in google.
Docs. I write in scrivener. But google docs is my number one favorite for sharing my writing now of course. I don t share my writing with many people as you know.
But when i need someone okay my sister to proofread something for me..
I will always send it to her through google docs. They just have a really nice setup for adding. And reviewing comments making changes and updating in real time. Also it s really fun to be like inside.
A document. A shared document with somebody else while they re editing. It and you re watching them out of it and things are just like disappearing. It s like magic.
It s so much fun. So yeah google docs for sharing proofreading and commenting and finally number four ambient mixer. Otherwise known as the secret portal to your fictional world. If you saw my video about how to instantly get in the writing mood.
You ve heard me talk about ambient mixer. Before basically. It s a database of hundreds of ambient soundscapes. All based on fictional places either from other people s stories or from your stories.
The cool thing about this is you can customize your own soundscape using their database of hundreds of sound effects and backdrops and essentially create your own little world to immerse yourself. In at least inside your headphones. Oh and it s totally free bonus. Pair this with some music to set the mood of your scene and wowza you were just like in the zone.
If you haven t checked out ambient mixer..
Definitely do that so that was the fort writing tools. But this one s gonna be an honorable mention and that s because it really is the writing tool. It isn t an app. It s kobo now you re either like never heard of it or you re like that s non line bookstore.
How is that a writing tool. It s really not a writing tool. But is the only bookstore. I have ever found that lists the word count for every book on the site.
And that my friend is helpful. So yeah fun fact if you re ever comparing word counts. Or you re just curious. What the word count is for your favorite books go to cobo calm.
Type. In the name of your book and boom word count who knew right all right my friend. That s it those are the writing tools that i use and love and couldn t live without comment below and tell me if you use any of those. And if you have any other secret writing tools that will make the process easier especially if there s any writing tools out there that like you know take an idea and write the book for you definitely let me know if you come across something like that smash that like button.
If you like this video and be sure to subscribe to this channel. If you haven t already because i post writing videos every wednesday and i d love to have you here in the community. See you next week. My friend rock on ” .
