“In this video. I ll show you how to make this real life snapchat flower flower crown. You can play this is such a great accessory of halloween or just any party or you know weddings as you see it looks so realistic. And it s really light and comfortable to wear.
Many people might not know that you can actually make flowers out of clay. And it s really quite easy. And the results look amazing. This craft trend is really popular in japan and russia and the secret is to use a very high quality play this is why i posted this tutorial really early so you can still order supplies online.
If you want to make it in time for halloween. I strongly recommend using a japanese brand like kay craft. Deco or hearty clay and i ve included all the shopping links under this video. If you live in the states.
Then you can also buy a hearty clay from hobby lobby. If you want to know more about air dry clay then please check out this video here. Where i have a detailed comparison between many different brands next you ll need a pack of face wipes or baby wipes. This prevents your clay from drying out.
Which is really useful for longer diys like this then you ll need some acrylic paints and a plain hairband. I got this one really cheaply from primark you ll also need some small bits of wire. I m going to be using these through rei pins. But you can easily use paper clips or hair pins.
Instead and lastly. You ll need some craft glue. And some hot glue. This diy works best with paper clay.
Because the barely weighs anything once dry polymer clay is not ideal. Because that will end up too heavy and uncomfortable to wear. I just want to mention again that the brand of clay really makes a huge difference when making flowers so just in case. You have problems with this diy.
Then please consider trying out one of the brands at link below. If you don t have a credit card to order things online then check out the app called app bounty. Which lets you earn free amazon gift cards that can be spent on craft supplies. I ve mentioned this several times more other videos because it really helped many of my viewers.
So if you want to try our app down to yourself. Then you can find all the information as well as commonly asked questions under this video. So start with a piece of clay about the size of a tennis ball break off a small piece and color is light orange using acrylic paint then wrap it in a face wipe and set aside next cut. The clay into three pieces and roll them out until you have three snakes then cut these into loads of tiny pieces that look a bit like mini marshmallows.
The important thing here is to cut the pieces in each row slightly bigger than the previous ones. These will become the flower petals. And the size difference will be a lot more noticeable once you flatten them out you can also cut some pieces into half again to make even smaller ones start by rolling each piece of clay into a small ball and use your thumb to flatten. It against the palm of your other hand.
You should use a sliding motion and focus on pressing the edges down. Until they re really thin. This can take a bit of practice. So don t worry if your first few attempts.
Don t look perfect just keep practicing until you get the hang of it once you figure. It out this is actually really fun and relaxing to do after you finish each flower petal place it between two face wipe sheets to keep the clay soft. Now just repeat the process until all the clay has been turned into flower petals of slightly different sizes this is not difficult. But it does require some patience so you should allow plenty of time for this diy next.
Add a bit of glue to a wire and attach the yellow clay that you made earlier shape this into the center of your flower start with the smallest flower petals and begin attaching these one by one around the center. If the clay is soft enough then you can just press them into place. But if you have problems getting them to stick. Then you can also use a tiny bit of glue to help once you ve completed one row move on to the slightly larger petals.
And add a second layer keep doing this until you have a beautifully layered flower at some point the metal wire might fall out. But that s not a problem because you already have enough clay at the base to hold on to you might want to trim any extra clay so the final flower sits flat and doesn t have any extra weight at the bottom wet the center of the flowers that we and add some texture using a toothpick or pin lastly arrange the flower petals. So they look nice and leave it to dry completely for the snapchat crown. You should make two large white flowers and one slightly smaller.
One now let s move on to the pink flowers take three small balls of clay and color them pink using red acrylic paint you can add different amount of paints to create a gradient effect. This makes the final flowers. Look prettier and gives them more depth. Then roll each color into a snake and cut them into tiny pieces.
Just like before try to make the pieces from each row slightly bigger than the previous one so you can create flower petals of different sizes make the flower petals in the same way by rolling it into a ball and then smoothing it out with your thumb against the palm of your other hand this time try to keep your flower petals rounder. So they look a bit like a flat your drop shape then repeat with all the clay until you have a nice collection of petals like this i decided to make my smallest flower petals dark pink and the larger petals lighter pink now make a small ball for the center of the flower and start wrapping the smallest petals around it try to overlap them neatly and always work in the same direction. So each new peto overlaps half of the previous one this gives you a nice realistic effect that actually looks like a real flower. I found that the trickiest part of this diy was actually holding on to the base of the flower without squishing.
The top. If you have problems getting the petals to stick then try using some glue and handle the flower. Very carefully so you don t accidentally damage the upper part as you continue working you can start using the larger flower petals. And the colors create a very pretty gradient effect you can sculpt the final piece by pushing the petals outwards or by arranging them to make the flower look more symmetrical.
The snapchat flower crown has two pink flowers. So you should make them both with one flower being slightly bigger than the other and lastly. We need. 7 yellow flowers thankfully.
These are simpler and take a lot less time to make make one batch of yellow clay. And a smaller piece of orange clay roll out a. Very thin snake and cut off ten to twelve tiny pieces. Then roll each piece into an oval shape and push it out with your thumb these flower petals.
Should be quite small. So you ll probably end up using less clay than you might expect once you have all the petals lined up like this take one and check that the thicker end is facing inwards place this on a flat surface and add another petal on top press. It down to stick them together and repeat with another petal now keep going until you complete a whole flower. Like this once you reach the end slide.
The last petal under the first one so you complete an amid circle. Then apply a bit of glue and add a disc of orange clay wet the surface and texture. It using a sharp tool and lastly curl the petals upwards and leave the flower to dry overnight. You should make two medium sized.
Yellow flowers and five small ones. So you can play around a bit with the sizes. So this is the final combination of flowers for the snapchat crown. I also made some lisa s and green clay and crinkle the edges slightly.
So they look more realistic as an extra tip when the clay is still soft you can press two flowers against each other and then prop it up against something to dry this creates a three dimensional shape. Which lets you fit more flowers onto your hairband for best results use a hairband that s the same color as your own hair. Which in my case is black by the way. I have another halloween hairband diy from 2 years ago.
So you can watch that here if you re interested i definitely recommend using hot glue to attach the flowers because it dries very quickly. And you don t have to wait around i use the snapchat filter as a guide and a started positioning the flowers onto the hairband this hairband had holes in it so i ended up wearing my finger several times because the glue leaked through so please be careful when working and don t end up with any blisters like i did make sure that all your flowers are firmly attached to each other on the back of the hairband hot glue can sometimes come apart after it s dry. So try to stick everything down as thoroughly as possible and now your snapchat flower crown is done so this is how the final piece. Looks really hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
