“Back to the guru today. I m going to show you a really cool add add on it allows you to privatize certain passages from a google doc. So this great for if you want to share an entire google doc. But maybe you want to keep personal information private or if there s other sections of the doc.
That you don t think needs to be available to those who are sharing it with so. The first step is to go into the add ons menu at the top click get addons. The addon is called doc secret and we ll click this little plus button to add it click accept and then we ll go to add ons menu again get a doc secret and will click open..
So. The first thing. It prompts. You to do is enter a passphrase this passphrase allows you to unlock the parts of the document that you have made private.
So we ll enter a passphrase now and now let s go about privatizing sections of this doc so we just highlight a block of text and then we click sensor text and now it is blocked out and we ll do it again you can do this for as many sections as you want. And if you are the owner of the doc. Then you can see what is behind these colored bars..
But if i were to share this doc with someone then they would only see the colored bars and they would not be able to see what is beneath them. So this would be private information and they would only be able to see the other parts of the doc. This is very similar to protected sheets and cells in google sheets. Except for that it not only prevents them from editing.
This information it prevents them from seeing it completely. So this is a amazing security and privacy feature. So let s see what it looks like when i share..
It with another collaborator. I m sharing this with dwight at dunder mifflin net. And i m giving him full. Edit privileges and i send that over and the great thing.
Is he doesn t even need to have this add on for this add on to work so these blocks of text will still be blocked out for the new collaborator. So let s take a look so now we re logged in as dwight and we re taking a look at this document and as you can see the blocked out pieces of text are still blocked out and if you highlight them you still can t see what s under them and if i wanted to reveal these what i would do is i would go back to the profile which i own this document and i can click reveal all. And i click yes and now if we go back to dwight..
We can see that all the information is available. So i hope you have found this to be helpful. If you have any questions or comments please leave them in the comment section. ” .

“You don t have to be an international spy to want to keep some aspects of a document private. Google s native sharing settings are only capable of sharing an entire doc or keeping an entire doc private. What do you do if you want to hide only specific passages?nnnUsing this free add-on, you can block out sections of text from a document so you only show collaborators what they need to see. Things like full names, email addresses, or other personal information will remain private while the rest of the document is shared. Although the docs look a little bit like classified government reports on extraterrestrials, the functionality is great for Docs users who are serious about privacy.nnTo watch the updated video and read the full article on the BetterCloud Monitor, visit: https://www.bettercloud.com/monitor/the-academy/how-to-hide-private-info-in-a-shared-google-docs/”,
