“Guys. I was going well. I have an interesting topic. Today.
Longtime youtube commenter on on my videos by the name of donald whitehead. Made a very interesting comment. The day which i would like to share discuss and explore so because i have one piece of technology. Which is my phone.
My phone serves as my camera my internet source source of entertainment. Everything so i don t have a laptop. I don t have another device where i could read off of it so what i have to do is i recorded myself reading out his comment because i want to make sure that i do it justice and repeat. What does he got exactly what he said.
Because he makes some really interesting points. So i m gonna read that for you now and show some pictures and then when it s finished. I ll get back to you and we ll discuss what he has to say as for bob wells. I would take his advice with a large grain of salt lately.
He s been giving some very irresponsible and downright dangerous advice to would be nomadic van dwellers considering making the change he exhorts all to just do it which is both cynical and disingenuous yes. Why would anyone want to spend their lives working at a job. They hate just to spend their last 25 years in comfort that s right tell all the youngsters to forget about building a meaningful career forgettable raising a family spend your lives instead bouncing from one low paying menial job to another so they can spend their final years in grinding poverty and physical discomfort and forgettable buying health insurance. If you need emergency treatment or surgery.
Don t worry the taxpayers will always pick up the tab. Easy for him to say he worked all his life in a career..
He obviously enjoyed and retired in comfort and forget about safety and danger. Those words are illusions his words in brackets safety and danger are opposite ends of a spectrum and if both our illusions. Then life and death must also be illusions now that was interesting so i m kind of a two minds on this a one hand. I agree with taunt.
What donald saying. It s not wise to live your life without a safety net. And if you re just working joe jobs for a minimum wage. You re always going to be a financial cataria situation and inevitably things go wrong.
And you may need thousands of dollars to replace your van or replace the transmission or engine or whatever. And if you re stuck in a job with no skills you re kind of in deep trouble. And i m very fortunate to be in canada. Where our medical system.
You know if if you have a life threatening injury or something very serious that you need to deal with a disease even if you re flat broke. The medical system with all its faults believe me it s not perfect. But they will you will not owe a dime canadians. If you know if you have cancer or if you have a serious disease or you have you re in a car accident any and you re covered no matter.
What you re gonna be covered and at the end of it you re not going all ten or twenty or thirty thousand dollars. Just not it s gonna be covered. Now are there long line ups for mris and things like this yes there definitely disadvantages to our system. But overall.
I m happy with it now getting back to the topic at hand in the us. If you re living on low wages..
Chances are you don t have a medical insurance plan. So that s another thing to consider when living a nomadic lifestyle. If you don t have those things in place you could be in a lot of trouble so to any viewers out there who are on the young side. We re thinking of trying the nomadic lifestyle.
I would highly recommend to get educated and to have some sort of skill it doesn t have to be a formal university education. But something where you have skills to offer employers that employers want this can be in academia. If that pays well this could be as an electrician or a plumber or a locksmith or something. Where you have to spit a specific skill that employers are demanding.
Which translates to money and unfortunately the way the world works is you need to have some money to make your life. More. Comfortable. You know have a higher standard of living so getting back to what donald was saying.
If you just live your life day to day as a nomad living in a van and you can t really afford to have a family or a home to raise them in because you re living in a van that could have impact on your quality of life. Now some ways say well that s a quality of life. I want i don t want the stress of a family or kids. And i just want to be free and you know what that s perfectly fine.
And there s an absolutely nothing wrong with that however on the other hand. There is something to be said for family and it does bring meaning sphere to your life. I mean i absolutely love my kids. And they definitely bring a sense of meaning to my life that i wouldn t have without them.
And it s an amazing experience. So if you ve worked your entire life and you can retire in comfort..
That s great and you can enjoy a higher quality of life and be comfortable. I ve seen some videos where i think it s actually bob interviewed. This one lady who was living in her car in the desert and she was living in on like 4 or 500 a month and she s showing her setup. But she had like an afford or sedan and it did make me sad that this lady had to live like that she had no money and she was in her like 70s and i don t know man like it just didn t seem like a good way to live.
Personally to just live in a car like that in the desert on like 4 or 500 a month. And what is the future hold for her it doesn t look great so that s kind of the the downside of things there in her situation is it s a very tough situation on the other hand. Consider the alternative point of view. You worked in your entire life.
And you asked yourself why you re trading your life your time. Which is the one thing you cannot replace you can always make more money you can always get another job you can always retrain you can always do a lot of things. But your health and time are irreplaceable so you have to ask yourself is what i m trading my life for my time the essence of my life worth what i m buying this reminds me of a situation. I was in when i was going to university and i worked at a grocery store and there s these young guys my age.
I was like 22 or something at the time and they were buying these 30000. All the cars and they re looking at me and going haha you take the boss you have to stand out in the rain well you know what i didn t really mind because i had an umbrella. I had a rain jacket and bc it rains in vancouver rains. So you prepared for it and if you have some music or a book or whatever.
It s no big deal and when i m done my when i was done all my university career. I could quit that job which nobody likes and there s a lot of bitter people there they re still there. But i guess what i m saying is you have to really think about whether your life is worth trading for those material possessions at time of your life. And i think that s the point that bob is trying to make is that you only get one life and my personal opinion is when you die you re dead.
The lights are off. Nobody s home someone unplug the took the plug are the wall..
It s no power you re gone. That s my personal belief. So if that s the case. You know you re gonna make the most of your life.
As much as you can and it s all a matter of what you find to be important and bob s opinion. It s more important to have a long life of pleasure and trying not to work as much to accumulate material. Possessions. Now when you get old in that situation you re going to be more discomfort.
Because you know your body fails you got to go to the bathroom. All the time your bones hurt. I don t know i m not old. I m not that old so i don t know but i gather that it s not a pleasant situation and the more money you have the more comfort.
You can have so for bob. He would rather have you know 40 50 years of good quality of life in the last 10 or 15 years or whatever. Maybe. The quality is not as good so it s the trade off you have to make and you have to make that choice.
What it s gonna be better for you so i hope i did justice to donald s discussion and it s something to think about you know what are you gonna do what s your choice. I m interested to hear what you guys think please leave me comments in the comment section. Below thanks for watching guys take care have a great night. ” .
