Today, thetruthaboutdow.org would like to introduce to you View Two Sheets Side-by-Side in the Same Excel File . Following along are instructions in the video below:
“To excel campus. My name is john and in this video. I m going to to explain how to view two worksheets in the same workbook using the new window. So oftentimes when we re working in a workbook.
We re flipping back and forth between sheets a lot maybe we re copying and pasting data. Tying out numbers or writing formulas and we spend a lot of time finding sheets down. Here. And then flipping back and forth between them well one way to view multiple sheets within the same workbook at the same time is using the new window feature so within excel.
We re going to go to the view tab here and then click the new window button keyboard shortcut is alt w. In and this is going to open a new window with the same workbook. So you can see that right up here in the title bar right after the filename. I now have a and if we go down to the task bar.
We can also see that here we can see our same file sales dashboard one and and we can navigate to a different worksheet in the window here. So this is still the same file that s open it just open in another window and then if we hit all tab on the keyboard..
We can navigate back to the one sheet. Here. We can also set this up in split view. So if i just drag this window over to the right or left side.
Here. And release. Then i have the options over here for the split screen. I ll select the dash version of the file or the second window.
And again. Now i have this same workbook open and i m viewing multiple sheets side by side. And i have a whole nother video that explains how to get into this split screen view in more detail including the keyboard shortcuts for it and i ll put a link to that in the description below this video. So again this is a great view here.
If you re comparing sheets or tying out numbers or writing formulas. Both of the windows here are still fully functional..
We can still interact with this right formulas. We can interact with our pivot table over here and still do everything we d normally do in excel. We just have these windows split side by side and we re able to view two different sheets in the same workbook and there is an option called synchronous scrolling. Which is nice if you re comparing data from two different sheets that might be similar data here.
We have our old data and our new data. And maybe we re looking for discrepancies or just want to visually compare these two sheets. We can go up to the view tab again here and right over here there s this synchronous scrolling button. Now it s currently disabled or it s grayed out we first have to click this button here.
Which is view side by side. So i ll click that that typically kind of screws up the view. And you have to put it back in split screen view. Again.
There is an arrange all button now that can work for this. Too you can click this as well make sure this checkbox is selected here windows of the active workbook..
Only and you can put these in a vertical layout and hit ok. And that ll do the split screen view as well so there s multiple ways to go about that or you can just do that drag method. But once you do either of those these. A synchronous scrolling button will be enabled here.
And if i scroll down on this sheet over here. That will also scroll the sheet on the right side. Here. Again.
This is a different sheet in the same workbook. So we re now able to scroll through this and compare these sheets side by side and of course. If you don t want synchronous scrolling. You this is a toggle button here you could just click it again to turn that off and now when we scroll on this side.
It will not scroll on the other side and that synchronous scrolling works. If you just use the scroll wheel on the mouse as well and then when you re done with the second window..
You could just close the window by pressing the close button up. Here you can do this on either the second or the first window. So i just click this here and that will close that window. And then again we can just double click there to maximize the first window.
And it will still remain open. And i should also point out that you could open more than two windows as well you can continue to click the new window button that opens the second window. There i can open a third window and so on so you can compare more than two windows or more than two sheets in the same workbook. If you need to so i hope those tips help you view and compare multiple sheets of course.
