“Everyone this is dave here with a look at performance in call of duty infinite infinite warfare. Now we came away pretty impressed when seeing the game running on playstation pro. During the first hour. The title appeared to hold a mostly solid 60 fps.
Something we haven t seen this series. Do for quite a while and that s despite the fact that game pushing some impressive visual effects from multiple layers of post processing to some incredible dynamic lighting it s seriously impressive stuff. But what about the other consoles. The standard ps4 and xbox one well let s start with the basics all three formats use a dynamic resolution scaler on ps4 pro.
We re looking at scaling on both axis. Move resolutions. Ranging from around 15 60 p. All the way up to native 4k depending on the rendering load.
Whereas on the base ps4 and xbox one consoles we see resolution locked on the vertical axis to 1080 p. But the horizontal resolution this is dynamically adjusted. According to rendering load with things dropping down as low as 900 in demanding scenes is an interesting solution..
And it s clearly designed to ensure that the game hits the important 60 fps refresh. When it matters and it s something that the game. Does so pretty well on both playstation systems. However on the xbox one the results are less than impressive.
And it s clear performance isn t as stable on this particular machine on ps4 pro. We re looking at mostly solid 60 fps with only a few drops here and there. But nothing particularly impactful gameplay feels crisp and the whole campaign generally goes by smoothly. There are subsections that exhibit visible stutter.
But these aren t last long and generally speaking. We were perfectly happy with the gameplay experience here it s the smoothest. We ve seen call of duty on consoles for a long time. The standard ps4 also holds up pretty well.
The presentation is fully vsync like the pro. So there s no screen tearing and performance is generally very good. It s not quite a solid..
Though and we do see a fair amount more of those smaller framerate drops with metrics. Varying between 50 and 60 fps. This does result. In some i ll start in a few you common firefights.
But overall. The results are rather good and the game spends majority of its time running at the desired 60fps target resulting in smooth and consistent gameplay. The xbox one version. Though doesn t hold up quite.
So well here infinity ward are using adaptive vsync. Which introduces tearing into the mix this means when individual frames. Can t be completed within the desired 16 milliseconds window for a 60 fps update. These are displayed in complete on screen resulting in tearing and on top of that the framerate is considerably less smooth than on ps4 in fact generally speaking the game operates around 50 to 55 fps.
In regular firefights and things do drop down into the low and mid 40s at times combined with the screen tearing this means. That there is quite a lot of stutter and indeed variances in controller response compared to the playstation versions of the game. The issue here is that the action doesn t always feel very smooth or consistent the game does hit a solid 60 fps in quieter moments at least in less detailed areas..
But whenever. The action starts to heat up. Then performance falls away from the desired 60. Fps target.
Now the xbox. One version isn t terrible performance ii is noticeably improved over black ops. 3. And as the first version of the game.
I played actually had a quite a lot of fun with it however. I also found the variances in performance quite distracting at times overall. Then if you re looking for the best campaign experience with infinite warfare. Then the playstation.
4. Pro is the way to go you get improved image quality in 1080p and 4k and performance is the most solid of the three as a result. The experience is great fun to play meanwhile in terms of the standard consoles the ps4 version takes point while the game doesn t hit a perfect 60 fps at all times..
The experience january feels very fluid and it s definitely step up over the call of duty games. We ve seen over the last few years. Unfortunately this level of stability doesn t quite translate over to microsoft s platform. 2.
Which is a shame as we actually feel that despite running at a lower resolution at various points. It actually holds up rather well from an image quality perspective and effects work and overall graphical quality actually appears very similar across all reversions. The game is still enjoyable to play with the experience. Just isn t quite as polished as it could be anyway.
